Sophomore Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) was named the MASCAC's Female Track Athlete of the Week this past week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Merchant led the Falcon ladies squad to a ninth place finish at the Jim Sheehan Memorial, posting a pair of post-season qualifying marks.
Merchant placed sixth overall in the 100m dash with a time of 13.06, while lifting the Falcons 4x100 relay team to a third place showing with a time of 52.92. In the field, Merchant was just as strong, posting a pair of personal best efforts, including a fifth place finish in the triple jump (10.68m) and a seventh place finish in the long jump (5.13m).
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track teams will be in action again this Saturday as it travels to the University of Massachusetts Lowell starting at 11 a.m.
