Sophomore Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) collects the women's Soarin Falon of the Week honor after pacing the Fitchburg State women's team at the Tufts University Stamped this past weekend.

Merchant was named to the MASCACs weekly honor roll after finishing third overall in the 55m dash with a time of 7.63. Merchant also legged a portion of the women's 4x200 relay (Merchant, Landry, Taupier and Marrone), leading Fitchburg State to fifth placing showing at a season-best, DIII time of 1:55.87 season best.

Merchant has been solid for the Falcons all-season both on the track and in the field. At the Jay Carisella Invitational, Merchant stole the show for the ladies with two DIII qualifiers and a pair of top 20 performances. Merchant qualified in the 55m dash with a time of 7.79, while also notching a DIII performance in the 200m with a time of 27.90. The sophomore was also solid in the field as well, notching a 20th place showing in the long jump (4.62m) and 14th place finish in the triple jumped (9.55m).

The Fitchburg State indoor track team returns to action this weekend as it travels to the University of Southern Maine for the MASCAC/Alliance Championships on Saturday.
