Senior running back Steve Austin (Jupiter, Fla./Stony Brook) lifted the Fitchburg State football team to its first victory of the season as the Falcons defeated Anna Maria College, 48-12 this weekend.

Austin led the Falcons seven touchdown attack, rushing for 168 yards on 28 carries, averaging nearly 6.0 yards per play. The senior back collected three touchdowns on the ground, while bringing in 48 yards through the air.

This season, Austin is averaging 99.5 yards per game, with an incredible 4.1 yards per carry. In addition to his running game, Austing is also a receiving threat for opponents, totaling 63 yards in the air on only five catches. The senior captain leads the Falcons squad in rushing, touchdowns and all-purpose yards.

The Fitchburg State football team (1-1, 0-0 NEFC) will open its 2009 home schedule this Saturday as it hosts UMass Dartmouth at 1:30 p.m.
