In anticipation of the upcoming contest between our two institutions we would like to provide you with an understanding of the Athletic Training Services available at Fitchburg State University. This will also address issues for our travelling teams so you may let us know ahead of time of any changes we may need to make.
There are currently three athletic training rooms at Fitchburg State University, one at each event site. There will be an athletic trainer available at the appropriate facility one hour before, and one half hour after each contest.
The first is the Main Athletic Training Room located in the Recreation Center on North Street. It is located at the end of the hallway at the left of the reception desk as you enter the building.
The second Athletic Training Room is a satellite facility located at Elliot Field and is used for all outdoor events. This is the first building on the left as you enter the driveway to the fields. This building is able to be a fully equipped facility but if there are special needs (i.e. Ultrasound, electrical stimulation, etc.) please notify us prior to your arrival so that we may have the necessary equipment available.
The final Athletic Training Room is another satellite facility located within the Wallace Civic Center. The athletic training room in the arena is used for ice hockey games and practices only. This room is used in a somewhat limited basis, as it is only accessible via the Fitchburg State University locker room.
There will be a Certified Athletic Trainer present at every home game/meet. At home football and ice hockey games the Team Physician will be present and available for consultation. There will also be an ambulance crew on site for all home football games. Only our football and ice hockey teams travel with a Certified Athletic Trainer and we will contact your institution if otherwise. Please contact one of our staff members in advance if your team is travelling without an athletic trainer.
Ice, water, ultrasound, whirlpool, moist heat, electrical stimulation, and emergency equipment will be available for all teams. (Please refer to conditions above.) All visiting teams are asked to be responsible for their own supplies (tape, pre-wrap, etc.). Our teams will be travelling with a medical kit. If any equipment is lent out please send it back to us at your earliest convenience and we will do the same.
We will provide basic taping and bracing for all traveling student-athletes. Our staff greatly appreciates any reciprocal coverage. If reciprocal coverage is not available, please contact one of our staff members. We will also be accommodating use of modalities providing a note or phone call is made by the Certified Athletic Trainer or Physician prior to the arrival of the team. If athletic training student(s) are traveling with their respected teams a written/typed note must accompany them and be signed by an ATC of the school listing the student-athletes names and treatment requests for all electrical modalities and hot packs because of liability concerns.
