Senior Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) led the Fitchburg State women's cross country team to a fifth place finish this past weekend at the Worcester City Meet hosted by Worcester State College.

Fortunato registered the Falcons best time of the day, finishing the 5K course with a time of 22:26. The senior runner placed 11th overall, narrowly missing Worcester Area All-Star honors.

This season, Fortunato has been solid for the Falcons, collecting one first and two, third place finishes for the Fitchburg State ladies team. At the Jim Sheehan Memorial, Fortunato placed ninth overall with a time of 23:41.1, while finishing third at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational with a mark of 21:55.

The Fitchburg State cross country team will be in action again this Saturday as it travels to the Keene State Invitational at 11 a.m.
