Senior Matt Carey (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) was named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week after leading the Fitchburg State men's soccer team to a perfect 2-0 record this week.

Carey earns his first weekly honor of the season after posting two consecutive shutouts, including a pair of 2-0 victories of NEWMAC powerhouse WPI and conference foe Mass-Maritime Academy. The senior captain totaled 17 saves in his career-week with a perfect 1.000 save percentage. 

This season, Carey has been the backbone of the Falcons defense, totaling a career-high 110 saves and a minimal 1.65 goals against average in 1200 minutes played. The veteran netminder has made his mark within the Falcon record books, ranking second all-time with 318 career saves, while also ranking second all-time with 53 games played.

The Fitchburg State men's soccer team (4-7-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC) will be back in action this Wednesday as it hosts Becker College at 4 p.m.
