Junior Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) was named the Little East Conference Goalie of the Week this week after leading Fitchburg State to a 1-1 record.
Van Ahnen averaged 11 saves per game with a .846 save percentage, while backstopping the Falcons to a 2-1 penalty-stroke victory over previously-unbeaten Framingham State. The junior netminder posted a season-best 16 save effort, while posting six stops against UMass Dartmouth earlier in the week.
This season, Van Ahnen has been stellar since returning from injury, posting 27 saves and two shutouts in just 351 minutes of work. Van Ahnen has recorded a 3-2 record in her first five games back, totaling a minimal 1.28 goals against average and a modest .839 save percentage.
Van Ahnen continues to make a name for herself in the highly competitive Little East Conference as she has topped the charts in several categories. Currently, Van Ahnen ranks among conference leaders in saves per game (10th), save percentage (2nd), shutouts (3rd) and goals against average (3rd), while putting Fitchburg State at the top of the leader board standings.
Fitchburg State (6-3, 3-0 LEC) will be back in action again tomorrow as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m.
