Junior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was tabbed the MASCAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week this past week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Muolo, a four-time recipient of the weekly honor, led Fitchburg State at the ECAC Championships this past weekend, registering the top individual performance of the afternoon. The veteran thrower finished seventh overall in the weight throw with a distance of 16.31m, while adding an 11th place finish in the shot put with 14.04m effort.

This season, Muolo has been as consistent as they come, qualifying for all three post-season honors, including the Division III All-New England Championships, All-New England Championships and ECAC Championships. He has proven to be one of the most dominant throwers in the MASCAC, earning second place honors the shot-put (49’-5.50”) and a first place finish in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 53'-7" at the MASCAC Championships.

In the post season, Muolo continued to shine, including at the DIII Championships where he earned his third Player of the Week honor of the season. He notched All-New England accolades in the weight throw (16.08m - 5th) and shot-put (14.35m - 3rd), while also qualifying for the ECAC Championships.

Fitchburg State concluded its 2009-10 indoor track season this past weekend and will now be off until March 20th when it opens its outdoor season at Northeastern University.
