Men’s Basketball Clips AMCATS On Senior Day
Withrow-Bass nets team best 14 points for Green & Gold
Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State Men's Basketball team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria, 72-70 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.
This afternoon was senior day and the Fitchburg State Men's Basketball team honored six seniors playing in their final regular season for their contributions to the program with the seniors being #10 Jeremiah Simeon, #11 Yovanny Lopez, #12 Duvall Price, #15 Tyriek Williams, #20 Nicolas Von Zboray and #25 Trevor Oliver.

How It Happened
First Half
Anna Maria raced out to an early 11-20 advantage on three-pointers from junior Tyson Wheeler (Norwich, CT) and sophomore Nolan Serafin (Burrville, RI) before Fitchburg State trimmed the deficit to 13-7 as senior Duvall Price (Lanham, MD) and classmate Trevor Oliver (Douglas, MA) hit buckets.
The AMCATS pushed the margin to 23-18 on a pair of free throws by junior Logan Talbot (N. Brookfield, MA), but the Falcons answered back when junior Braeden White (Spencer, MA) and classmate Kobe Withrow-Bass (Sacramento, CA) registered layups to take a 25-23 edge.
The visitors knotted the contest at 25-25 as junior Jason Canady (Waterbury, CT) sank two from the charity strip before the Green and Gold took a 40-33 lead into the break with senior Nicolas Von Zboray (Sacramento, CA) draining a three-ball.
Second Half
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State upped the margin to 46-39 when Price registered a layup before Anna Maria cut the margin to 46-43 as sophomore Lucas Miglionico (Dudley, MA) netted a pair of buckets.
The Falcons answered back with junior Joshua Jean Charles (Dorchester, MA) and Withrow-Bass notching buckets to make the score 57-49, but the AMCATS responded when junior Ryan Outlow (Norwich, CT) connected on a basket to cut the lead to 60-53.
The visitors battled back to tie the contest at 67-67 with Miglionico registering a layup before the Green and Gold regained the lead for good as Jean Charles netted a free-throw (68-67). Anna Maria cut the deficit to 71-70 when Talbot buried a three-pointer, but the Falcons secured the 72-70 victory with White sinking a free-throw.
Inside the Numbers
- Withrow-Bass led the way for the Falcons with a team-best 14 points, four rebounds and three steals
- Von Zboray added 12 points, two boards, one assist and one steal
- For the AMCATS, Talbot finished with a game-leading 15 points, five caroms and one steal
- Serafin chipped in with 14 points, 12 rebounds and one steal
- Fitchburg State shot 25-for-59 (42.4% from the field and (4-of-15) 26.7% from three point range
- Anna Maria finished at 23-of-66 (34.8%) overall and (5-for-26) 19.2% from beyond the arc
