Fitchburg State Silences Wellesley, 1-0 (OT)
Junior Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass./Bartlett) netted the game-winning marker just three minutes into overtime to lift Fitchburg State over Wellesley College, 1-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action this afternoon.

WELLESLEY, Mass. (October 9, 2012) – Junior Nicole Stone (Webster, Mass./Bartlett) netted the game-winning marker just three minutes into overtime to lift Fitchburg State over Wellesley College, 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action this afternoon.
Following two scoreless frames, Fitchburg State capitalized on the lone scoring opportunity of the extra period as Stone collected a loose ball, turned around a defender and blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the net for her second tally of the season to secure the victory Fitchburg State.
In the second half, Wellesley almost broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 67th minute of action as senior Megan Turchi (Rancho Santa Margarita, Cali./Tesoro) and classmate Jennifer Marble (Midland, MI/H.H. Bow) registered shots, but Falcon goalkeeper Kelsey Ford (Franconia N.H./Profile School) turned away both shots.
With four minutes remaining in regulation, Fitchburg State threatened to break into the scoring column, when sophomore midfielder Mikaela Foley (Jefferson, Mass./Wachusett Regional) blasted a pair of shots on target, but Wellesley net-minder Claire Cerda (Coral Gables, Fla./Ransom Everglades) denied both chances to force overtime.
Throughout the match, Wellesley dominated play, out-shooting Fitchburg State 15-3, while holding a 4-1 margin in corners. In net, Ford posted two second half saves en-route to her first collegiate victory for Fitchburg State, while Cerda stopped two shots in the complete game effort for the Blue.
Fitchburg State (3-10-0, 1-3-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Framingham State at 12 p.m. Wellesley (5-7-1, 2-3-0 NEWMAC) will visit Mount Holyoke on Saturday at 1 p.m.
