Fitchburg State Blanks Mass. Maritime, 4-0
Four different Falcons registered goals as the Fitchburg State women’s soccer team defeated Mass. Maritime Academy, 4-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon.
Perez and Maki collect first collegiate markers in Falcons MASCAC victory
FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 29, 2012) – Four different Falcons registered goals as the Fitchburg State women's soccer team defeated Mass. Maritime Academy, 4-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon.
In the opening frame, Fitchburg State broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 35th minute when freshman Nicole Perez (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) registered her first collegiate marker. Perez received a feed from classmate Jacqueline Walker (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and blasted a shot from the left side to put the Falcons up 1-0 heading into intermission.
After the break, the Falcons doubled their lead (2-0) at the 58:15 mark as freshman Rachel Mackewicz (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial) knocked home a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Mikaela Foley (Jefferson, Mass./Wachusett Regional) for her third score of the season.
The host Falcons upped their lead roughly six minutes later when junior Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) beat Buccaneers goalie Katie Levesque (Wilmont, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) to the far side for the 3-0 advantage. Before capping the scoring in the 85th minute as newcomer Stephanie Maki (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont Regional) headed in a shot from ten yards out off an assist from sophomore Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) resulting in the 4-0 final.
Throughout the match, Fitchburg State controlled the offensive front, out shooting Mass. Maritime 33-6, while limiting the Buccaneers to just three corners. In net, junior Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) registered four saves in 72 minutes of work for Fitchburg State, while Levesque made 13 stops in the complete game effort for Mass. Maritime.
Fitchburg State (2-9-0, 1-2-0 MASCAC) will be back in action next Saturday as it visits MCLA for a match starting at 1 p.m. Mass. Maritime Academy (1-6-0, 0-3-0 MASCAC) will host the Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
