Fitchburg State Shines At All-New England Championships

Lane and Desrochers earn All-New England marks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 12, 2012) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the All-New England Championships this past weekend hosted by MIT.

A trio of Falcons collected All-New England honors as junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and sophomore Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) placed among the top eight in their respective events. Lane finished seventh overall in the high-jump (1.60m) and 19th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.65), while Desrochers notched a PR in both the hammer (55.93m - 5th) and discus (45.88m – 8th).

The Falcons notched several other personal records on the afternoon, including a school record by the men’s 4x800 relay team. The team of Lary, Davis, Quinlan and Kibler placed tenth overall with a time of 7:53.81. Sophomore Brittany Chace (Foster, R.I./Ponagansett) wrapped up the personal bests in the javelin, qualifying for the ECAC’s with a distance of 37.79m, while seniors Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) and Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) added a 10.76m triple jump and 15:29.23 5000m run respectively.

The Falcons’ women’s relay teams finished the day with a pair of ECAC qualifying performance as the 4x400 team of Wilkinson, Merchant, Harrison and Marrone posted a mark of 4:06.91. The 4x100 team of Robert, McClure, Blanchard and Merchant added a 50.16 performance to qualify for another post-season.

Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action again next weekend as they compete at the ECAC Championships hosted by RPI.
