Derek Shell:  Head Coach (Seventh Season; 56-93)

Derek Shell is in his seventh season as the head coach of the Fitchburg State men's basketball team. Throughout his six seasons at the helm, Shell has compiled an overall record of 56-93 with a 22-38 mark in the highly competitive MASCAC Conference. 

Over the course of his tenure, Shell has led the Falcons to four MASCAC playoff berths, while naming six players to the MASCAC All-Conference team. During the 2007-08 seaosn, Shell was crowned the MASCAC Men's Baskeball Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to an ECAC Division III playoff berth with an impressive 16-10 record and 8-4 clip in the MASCAC.

During the 2009-10 season, Shell lifted the Falcons to their second straight MASCAC Tournament appearance after posting an overall record of 8-18. The seventh-seeded Falcons drew third-seeded Worcester State in the quarterfinal round but fell to the Lancers, 72-64 on the road.

This past season, Shell led the Falcons back to the post-season, earning the sixth-seed in the MASCAC playoffs with an overall record of 13-12 and a 4-8 mark in the league.

Prior to taking over as head coach of Fitchburg State, Shell served as an assistant coach for three seasons under former head coach Shawn Conrad. In addition, Shell has been involved in high school, college, and professional basketball for the past 19 years. 

He currently resides in Fitchburg, Mass.
