Ice Hockey Clips Lancers In Overtime

Worcester, MA – The Fitchburg State Ice Hockey team defeated the Lancers of Worcester State, 6-5 in overtime this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Worcester Ice Arena.

The Basic

How It Happened

Worcester State opened the scoring 11:20 into the first period as graduate student Shane Prifrel (Inver Grove Heights, MN) found the back of the net for his third score of the season for the 1-0 advantage.

In the middle frame, the Lancers doubled their margin six minutes into the stanza when freshman Sean Tyrie (East Quague, NY) settled a feed from sophomore Bryce Granbois (Windsor, ON) and struck for his fifth marker on the year to make the score 2-0.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 2-1 midway through the frame with junior Kristopher Zapata (Cherry Hill, NJ) depositing a shot inside the left post for his fourth tally of the 2025-26 campaign before freshman Nathan Dann (Trail, BC) received a pass from junior Andrew Woloszyn (Windham,  NH), who connected for his third score on the year to knot the score at 2-2.

In the third period of play, the hosts regained the lead just nine seconds into the frame as junior Michael Schaaf (Nashua, NH) netted his second goal of the season for the 4-3 edge. The Green and Gold would retake the lead, scoring two goals in the span of three minutes with junior Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) and newcomer Tye Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) finding the back of net for the 4-3 advantage.

Worcester State then found the back of the twice when junior Matthew Nuzzolilo (Worcester, MA) and Tyrie netting markers to make the score 5-4. Fitchburg State tied the contest again (5-5) as freshman Devin Niles (Hatfield, MA) collecting a freed from Battipaglia and tucking a shot inside the lower right corner for his 15th tally.

In the overtime period, the Falcons secured the victory at the 2:40 mark as junior Nicklas Millhorn (Brownstown, MI) fired a shot inside the left post for his fifth goal of the season, resulting in the 6-5 final
