Ice Hockey Blanks Rams In MASCAC Clash

Dunn nets two goals and two assists for Green & Gold

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team extended its winning streak to seven games Thursday night at Wallace Civic Center, blanking Framingham State, 5–0, behind a two-goal performance from Hunter Dunn and a 25-save shutout by Frederick Soderberg.

Records:
Fitchburg State (15-5, 8-1 MASCAC), Framingham State (5-14, 2-7 MASCAC)

How It Happened

Hunter Dunn opened the scoring just 4:20 into the first period with an unassisted tally. The junior intercepted a pass in the Rams' defensive zone and snapped a wrist shot past the Framingham State goaltender to give the Green and Gold an early 1–0 advantage.

The Falcons doubled the lead at the 7:38 mark of the opening frame when Dunn netted his second goal of the night on the power play. Aleksei Filimonov found Dunn with a cross-ice feed, setting up a quick finish for Dunn's 11th goal of the season.

Fitchburg State continued to capitalize on the man advantage later in the period to push the lead to 3–0. Dunn sent a shot on net from the blue line, and Filimonov corralled the rebound and buried it for the Falcons' third power-play goal of the contest.

The Green and Gold extended the cushion in the second period with yet another power-play marker. Newcomer Devin Niles one-timed a rebound into the back of the net, while Dunn and Tye Battipaglia earned assists on the play.

Fitchburg State rounded out the scoring in the third period as Andrey Bondarev tallied his first collegiate goal on the power play, marking the Falcons' fourth man-advantage goal of the game.

In goal, Frederick Soderberg was stellar between the pipes, stopping all 25 shots he faced to earn the shutout and his 13th victory of the season.
