HENNIKER, NH: The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team defeated the Pilgrims of New England College in overtime this evening in non-conference action, 4-3.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first period started quickly for the Pilgrims as they scored the opening goal in just 53 seconds. Egor Osipik put NEC ahead with a goal, making it 1-0. The Falcons tied the game in the 14th minute when Devin Niles (Hatfield, MA) scored his first of two goals during a power play.
- The second period saw NEC go up again, 2-1, with a goal in the 5th minute. This time, Jack Ohlund beat the Falcons' tender. Fitchburg quickly responded by tying it up again, just 18 seconds after the Pilgrims' go-ahead goal. Niles scored once more for Fitchburg, bringing his total to two goals. Jacob Trowt (Whitingham, VT) then gave the Falcons their first lead of the game in the 15th minute of the second period, making it 3-2.
- The third period had only one goal, scored by the home team. Osipik netted his second goal of the game, tying the score. This prompted an overtime period with the game tied 3-3. The Falcons scored in overtime to secure the win, with Nicklas Millhorn (Brownstown, MI) scoring the game-winning goal.

- Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) got the win (7-2) after making 42 saves and allowing just three goals.
- Vladimir Maksimov suffered the loss (0-1) after making 25 saves and allowing four goals.
