Men’s Ice Hockey Blows Past Raiders in MASCAC Opener
NASHUA, NH: The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team took down the Raiders of Rivier University in its MASCAC opener this evening, 6-1.
THE BASICS:

- Score: Fitchburg 6, Rivier 1
- Records: Fitchburg (2-4, 1-0 MASCAC), Rivier (0-6, 0-1 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons scored early and often throughout this one. Starting with three goals in the first period. The first came in the 5th minute off the stick of Devin Niles (Hatfield, MA), marking his fifth goal of the season already. The second and third goals both came via the power play, with Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) breaking his scoreless streak with his first of the season. Tye Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT) finished the period with the team's second power play goal in the 16th minute, giving them a 3-0 lead.
- Battipaglia would score his second of the game and fourth goal of the season within the first two minutes of the second period. The Falcons fifth goal and final one of the second was scored in the 17th minute by Dunn for his second of the game.
- Rivier would get on the board first in the third period via the power play in the 4th minute. Damon Kiyawasew scored the goal for the Raiders making it a 5-1 game. Fitchburg would add on one last score in the 5th minute on the second goal of the season for Aleksei Filimonov (Saint Petersburg, Russia).
- Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) got the win (2-2) in net for the Falcons after making 30 saves on 31 shots. Mason Meyer suffered the loss (0-4) after making 37 saves on 43 shots faced.
