Manyak and Joubert combine for 12 digs in non-conference setback
Henniker, N.H. – The Fitchburg State Women's Volleyball team returned to action this evening, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Pilgrims of New England College in non-conference action from the Bridges Gymnasium.

How It Happened
New England College grabbed a 7-2 advantage in the first set before the Falcons answered back with a point of their own (7-3). Fitchburg State cut the lead to 11-10 on a service ace from senior Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, Mass.), but the Pilgrims extended their margin (18-12) following a kill by freshman Shirita Wimberly (Waipahu, Hawaii), en-route to the 25-14, first set final.
In the second set, New England College raced to an early 13-2 lead on a kill from junior Dreka Griffin (Calera, Ala.), but the Green and Gold answered with a with a kill by junior Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) to make the score 21-6. The hosts would take the second set though, 25-8 with a kill by sophomore Tihani Ehia (Kaneohe, Hawaii).
New England College would go on to take the third and final set, 25-13 to secure its first victory on the season.
Inside the Numbers
This evening's contest marks the fifth meeting between the two teams on the court with the Falcons 0-5 all-time when taking on the Pilgrims.
New England College has won all five matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 3-0 decision last season at the Parkinson Gymnasium.
Fitchburg State was led by Manyak with five assists, one service ace and one dig, while junior Perry Joubert (Seekonk, Mass.) added a team-leading seven assists and two digs.
Senior Emily Beauvais (Greenfield, N.H.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing with three kills, one solo block and one blocking assist.
Sophomore Maggie Dadmun (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) registered a game-best 14 assists and one dig to lead the way for New England College, while Wimberly added six digs, four kills and one service ace for the hosts.
Falcons will host the Hawks of Becker College on Thursday for a non-conference tilt, starting at 6:00 PM. Pilgrims will travel to Plymouth State University on Fridayy for a tri-match with the Panthers and Elmira College, starting at 6:00 PM.
