Women’s Track Hosts Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite On Senior Day

Goba and Camara collect first place efforts for Green & Gold

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team hosted it's annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational today as the Falcons honored four seniors competing in the final season with the seniors being Makany Camara, Skye Goba, Cassandra Israelson and Alanis Velez.

How It Happened

Senior Skye Goba (Norton, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 1500 meter with a DIII New-England qualifying time of 4:54.42, while senior Makany Camara (Lowell, MA) took top honors in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.57 meters.

In the 3000 meter steeple chase, junior Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) finished fifth overall with a time of 13:51.96, while the 4x100 meter relay team of sophomore Arieyana Robinson (Worcester, MA), classmate Dehkontee Cooper (Haverhill, MA), newcomer Ama Aminu (Randolph, MA) and senior Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA) finished 13th with a time of 53.48 seconds.

In the 100 meter hurdles, newcomer Nevaeh Hurley (Fitchburg, MA) and Aminu placed 17th and 21st with times of 18.44 and 21.43 seconds, while in the 100 meter, Robinson (13.65), Cooper (14.34), Velez (14.99) and freshman Maya Ortiz (Webster, MA) (16.78) finished 22nd, 42nd,50th and 60th respectively.

In the 800 meter sophomore Morgan Ruel (Dracut, MA) placed 39th overall with a time of 3:56.27, while junior Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) finished 17th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:25.44.

In the 200 meter, Aminu finished 36th overall with a time of 30.32 seconds, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Velez, Aminu, Robinson and Cooper turned in a fourth place time of 4:38.50.

In the field, junior Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) placed fifth overall in the discus with a toss of 31.79 meters, while in the shot put, Crout (21st), Ortiz (37th) and sophomore Joey Schmidt-Gross (Sudbury, MA) (38th) notched tosses of 8.71M, 6.62M and 6.38M. In the hammer throw, Crout (7th) and Schmidt-Gross (36th) notched tosses of 38.20 meters and 19.84 meters.

In the triple jump, junior Trishannah Scott (Fitchburg, MA) and Robinson finished third and 22nd overall with marks of 10.38 meters and 8.92 meters, while Scott placed fourth overall in the long jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 5.14 meters and Hurley and Velez placed 15th and 26th with marks of 4.63 meters and 4.36 meters. In the javelin, Ortiz placed 31st overall with a throw of 15.28 meters, while Crout finished seventh overall in the discus with a mark of 32.37 meters.
