Women’s Track Opens 2026 Campaign At The J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic

Goba sets school in the 3000 meter with time of 10:10.78

Middletown, CT – The Fitchburg State University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team opened their 2026 campaign today, competing at the 2026 J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, hosted by Wesleyan University at the Andersen Track.

How It Happened

Senior Skye Goba (Norton, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the 3000 meter with a new school record time of 10:10.78, surpassing the previous record held by Kim Besnahan (1986).

In the 400 meter, freshman Ama Aminu (Randolph, MA) and senior Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA) placed 27th and 29th respectively with times of 1:15.32 and 1:16.76, while in the 100 meter, sophomore Arieyana Robinson (Worcester, MA) (16th), freshman Dehkontee Cooper (Haverhill, MA) (29th) and Aminu (31st) posted times of 13.66, 14.64 and 14.75 seconds.

In the 800 meter junior Gwendolyn Connors (Ayer, MA) and sophomore Morgan Ruel (Dracut) placed 13th and 20th overall with times of 2:40.74 and 3:57.29, while junior Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) finished 17th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:25.44.

In the 200 meter, Robinson (42nd). Connors (54th) and Cooper (62nd) turned in times of 29.01, 30.82 and 33.61 seconds.

In the field, junior Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) finished 12th overall in the shotput with a toss of 10.23 meters, while in the hammer throw, Crout and junior Joey Schmidt-Gross (Sudbury, MA) placed seventh and 25th with tosses of 35.93 meters and 22.98 meters.

In the long jump, junior Trishannah Scott (Fitchburg, MA) finished tenth overall with a mark of 4.76 meters, while Scott added a sixth place effort of 10.62 meters in the triple jump. In the javelin, freshman Maya Ortiz (Fitchburg, MA) placed 29th overall with a throw of 16.46 meters, while Crout finished seventh overall in the discus with a mark of 32.37 meters.
