Falcons Soar At Reggie Poyau Invite

Camara notches pair of third place efforts

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon, placing ninth overall at the 2023 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational with a total of 13 points, hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Center.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing third in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 9.57 seconds, while also finishing third overall in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying jump of 1.52 meters.

In the 1000 meter, seniors Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) (3;23.81), Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) (3:33.63) and Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) (3:38.42) all qualified for MASCAC after placing tenth, 11th and 15th respectively, while junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) added an 18th place effort of 1:28.19.

In the 800 meter, junior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) registered a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:57.60 after finishing 11th overall, while newcomer Emily Russo (Gardner, Mass.) (3:11.84), Grace Casale (3:17.56) and senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (3:23.07) placed 13th, 14th and 15th in the event.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Arbia, Burnett, Donelan and Brouillet placed sixth with a solid time of 4:42.63, while newcomer Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:42.95 in the mile after finishing tenth overall.

In the field, junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying toss of 9.54 meters with a tenth place finish in the weight throw, while in the shotput, freshman Cassandra Israelson  (20th) and Kephart (21st) added MASCAC qualifying marks of 7.60M and 7.51M.

Newcomer Alanis Velez (Lowell, Mass.) finished 14th in the 60m hurdles (11.41) and 21st in the 200 meter (32.09), while Kephart rounded out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon, finishing 29th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 11.71 seconds.
