MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons place seventh overall with 15 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was recently selected seventh overall with 15 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's soccer poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

Westfield State, the reigning MASCAC post-season tournament champions, earned four of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 46 points to outdistance second place Worcester State's total of 42 points, which included three first place ballots.

Bridgewater State followed in third place with a total of 36 points, including the final first place vote, while Framingham State was picked fourth with 32 points. Salem State placed fifth, amassing a total of 29 points, while MCLA captured sixth place with 17 points.

Fitchburg State and Mass. Maritime rounded out the 2016 MASCAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll in sixth and seventh place with 15 points and seven points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State women's soccer team will kick off its 2016 season on Thursday, September 1st as it travels to Bay Path for a contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
