Fitchburg State Ranked Sixth In Pre-Season Coaches Poll

Falcons collect 24 points in MASCAC coaches’ poll

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (August 24, 2012) – The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team was recently selected sixth in the MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as selected by the league coaches Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls of Westfield State University were selected as the pre-season pick to win the 2012 MASCAC Women’s Soccer championship after claiming the tournament title last fall. Westfield State captured five first place votes to amass 60 points. Worcester State finished a close second, totaling 59 points and three first place votes.

Bridgewater State, which shared last year’s league regular season crown with Westfield State and Worcester State, finished in third place with 48 points, while Salem State and Framingham State follow in fourth and fifth place with 33 and 32 points respectively. Fitchburg State and MCLA shared sixth place with 24 points each, while Mass-Maritime rounds out the poll with eight points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.

The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team is set to kick off its 2012 schedule on August 31st, as it travels to Eastern Connecticut State University for the 2012 Warriors Classic.
