Fitchburg State Surges Past Becker, 6-0
Sophomore Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) converted her first hat-trick of the season to lead the Fitchburg State women’s soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Becker College this evening.
Falcons post fourth straight victory behind Jamieson's hat-trick
FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 13, 2011) – Sophomore Rachel Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro) converted her first hat-trick of the season to lead the Fitchburg State women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Becker College this evening.
With the victory, the Falcons post their fourth straight victory, improving to 4-1-0 on the season. Becker drops to 2-2-1 on the year.
Jamieson got off to a strong start in the contest, converting her hat-trick in just nine minutes of work. The sophomore striker put the Falcons on the board in the early going of the game, touching for her fourth goal of the season off a cross from sophomore Danielle Polcari (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) at the 4:26 mark.
Jamieson struck again just three minutes later, depositing back-to-back scores to complete her three goal flurry. Her fifth goal of the season came off a Sierra Santos (Lakeville, Mass./Dartmouth) rebound at 7:03, while the third goal of the game used an assist from senior Katie Hayward (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) at 8:50.
The Falcons added another pair of goals late in the first half to take a 5-0 lead into the break before capping their scoring off with a goal in the second frame. Fitchburg State held a commanding advantage in targets at 36-8, while controlling most of the contest with a 9-0 advantage in corners.
In net, all three Falcon goaltenders saw action with sophomore Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) earning the victory. Kirouac was untested over her 33 minutes of work, while freshman Kelsey Ford (Franconia, N.H./Profile School) and senior Melanie Berent (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) both saw action in the Falcons shutout. Freshman Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif./Westview) registered nine saves for the Hawks.
Fitchburg State (4-1-0, 0-0-0 MASCAC) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to Salem State University at 12 p.m. Becker (2-2-1, 0-0-0 NECC) will visit Colby Sawyer on Sunday at 1 p.m.
