Fitchburg State women’s soccer team collected its fourth consecutive victory, defeating Salve Regina University, 3-0 in non-conference action this evening.
Falcons collect 19th consecutive home victory with shutout win over Seahawks
FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 9, 2008) - The Fitchburg State women's soccer team collected its fourth consecutive victory, defeating Salve Regina University, 3-0 in non-conference action this evening. With the win, the Falcons are now riding a 19 game home-winning streak dating back to the 2005 season.
The Fitchburg State offense was led by the trio of freshman Julie Dowson (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop), classmate Lindsay Taylor (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood) and junior Jen Tabor (Webster, Mass./Bartlett) who tallied one goal apiece, while senior Mary Provost (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley),sophomore Julie Almstrom (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and newcomer Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) registered one assist each.

Fitchburg State opened the scoring late in the first half with back-to-back goals by Dowson and Taylor. Dowson put the Falcons on the board with her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute off a dish from Provost before Taylor gave the Falcons a 2-0 advantage with her third goal of the season just 0:41 later.
Fitchburg State broke the second half scoring silence late in the 80th minute of the match as Tabor netted her first score of the season off Carissa Kennedy's second assist of the year.
Fitchburg State outshot Salve Regina 25-7 in the contest and gained a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) collected three saves in her second shutout of the season, while junior net-minder Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I./Raphael Academy) stopped nine shots for the Seahawks.
Fitchburg State (4-0, 0-0 MASCAC) is set to host Castleton State on Thursday at 7 p.m. Salve Regina (0-3, 0-0 TCCC) will host New England College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
