Castleton Stops Fitchburg State, 2-1
The Fitchburg State women’s soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 setback to Castleton State College in non-conference action this evening at Elliot Field.
Kennedy leads Falcons with second goal of season
FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 11, 2008) - The Fitchburg State women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 setback to Castleton State College in non-conference action this evening at Elliot Field.
Freshman Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, Mass./Bishop Stang) scored the lone goal for Fitchburg State while senior Mary Provost (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) chipped in with one assist.

Sophomore Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt./Brattleboro) led the Castleton State attack, scoring both goals for the Spartans, while freshman Kelly Tetrault (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and classmate Kristin Marek (Milton, Vt./Milton) added one helper each.
Castleton State opened the scoring late in the 44th minute of the match as Chadburn connected for her first score of the season. Tetrault started the scoring drive with a crisp shot on net, but junior goalkeeper Kyla Batchelder (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) made a diving save to prevent the score, but Chadburn deposited the rebound to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
Fitchburg State evened the score at 1-1 early in the second half as Kennedy fired back and made a diving kick over Castleton goalkeeper Cady Kerin (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) to collect her second goal of the season. Castleton responded just six minute later on Chadburn's second goal of the match to take a 2-1 lead and preserve the victory.
Fitchburg State dominated the offensive attack, out-shooting Castleton 16-7 with a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. In net, Batchelder notched four saves in a complete game effort for the Falcons, while Kerin stopped nine shots for the Spartans

as it hosts WPI at
12 p.m. Castleton State (1-2, 0-0 NAC) will travel to Maine-Machias
on Saturday 12 p.m.
