Women's Basketball Defeated By AMCATS In MASCAC Action
Augmon paced Green & Gold with team-best 12 points
Paxton, MA. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team suffered a 70-49 setback to the AMCATS of Anna Maria this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Fuller Activities Center.

How It Happened
1st quarter
Anna Maria jumped to an early 8-2 advantage as junior Tiffany Salazar (Webster, MA) drained a three ball before Fitchburg State answered back with a bucket from freshman Kyelah Smith (Bloomfield, CT) to make the 8-4. The AMCATS pushed the lead to 12-6 when sophomore Bri Franklin (Brewster, NY) netted a layup, but the Falcons responded as senior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) notched a bucket to trim the deficit to 12-9.
2nd quarter
The hosts upped the lead to 27-9 with sophomore Meghan Doyle (Hardwick, MA) registered a layup before the Green and cut the deficit to 27-13 when freshman Avery James (Attleboro, MA) hit a jumper. Anna Maria took a 38-13 margin into the break though as junior Sarah O'Connor (Leicester, MA) connected on a layup.
3rd quarter
Following the intermission, Anna Maria upped the lead to 47-18 as O'Connor notched a bucket before Fitchburg State answered back (50-30) on baskets by Smith and junior Monet Augmon (New London, CT) as well as three-ball from Tanner.
4th quarter
The Falcons reduced the deficit to 56-37 when Augmon netted a layup, but Anna Maria secured the victory with Salazar hitting a basket, resulting in the 70-49 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Falcons were paced by Augmon with a team-best 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block
- James added 11 points, seven caroms, one assist and one steal
- For the AMCATS, junior Arianna Gonzalez (Worcester, MA) finished with a team-leading 19 points, seven boards, six assists, three steals and one block
- Doyle chipped in 16 points, seven rebounds, one assists, two steals and three blocks
- Fitchburg State shot 17-for-68 (25.0%) from the field and (2-of-21) 9.5% from three-point range
- Anna Maria went 25-of-65 (38.5%) overall and (11-for-36) 30.6% for beyond the arc
- AMCATS finished with a 56-45 margin on the glass
