Women’s Basketball Falls Short to Gordon
WENHAM, MA: The Fitchburg State women's basketball team fell to the Fighting Scots of Gordon College this evening in non-conference action, 46-42.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- This game was a low-scoring affair as both teams struggled to score in the first and third quarters. The Falcons led 9-7 after the first quarter and kept the lead through the second, outscoring the Fighting Scots 18-17. At halftime, the Falcons were up 27-24. The third quarter saw Gordon cut the lead down to two with a 7-5 quarter. Gordon closed the gap and took the lead for the first and only time in the closing quarter by outscoring the Falcons 15-10.
- The Fighting Scots secured the victory behind Woynitu Ciccarello, who scored a game-high 22 points. Sophie Peters also contributed a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Leah McGarvey added another 11 rebounds for Gordon.
- The Falcons were topped by Shanell Smith-Akpan (West Warwick, RI), who had 14 points and seven rebounds. Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) also broke double digits with 11 points. Kyelah Smith (Bloomfield, CT) put in some work on the boards for Fitchburg, finishing with a team-high 11 rebounds.
