Fitchburg State Picked Sixth In Pre-Season Poll
The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team was recently selected sixth in the 2011-12 MASCAC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league officer Tuesday morning.
Falcons finish with 13 points in MASCAC’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. (November 8, 2011) – The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team was recently selected sixth in the 2011-12 MASCAC Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
The Trailblazers of the MCLA were selected as the pre-season favorite, claiming four first place votes to amass 42 points, topping defending conference regular season champion Westfield State’s total of 40 points that included one first place vote. Bridgewater State, the 2010-11 MASCAC tournament champion, followed in third place with 37 points and one first place vote, while Worcester State, which collected the other first place vote, and Framingham State finished fourth and fifth with 30 points and 21 points respectively. Fitchburg State and Salem State wrapped up this year’s poll in a tie for sixth place with 13 points each.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s first Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
