Fitchburg State Rebounds Over Rivier, 82-47
The Fitchburg State women’s basketball team rebounded this afternoon, defeating Rivier College, 82-47 in the consolation round of the 2010 Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament.

NORTON, Mass. (November 20, 2010) –The Fitchburg State women's basketball team rebounded this afternoon, defeating Rivier College, 82-47 in the consolation round of the 2010 Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament.

Senior Molly Maloney (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) led all scorers, shooting 8-of-10 from the field for a game-high 18 points. Maloney finished 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, while adding six rebounds (five offensive). Classmates Kelley Rogers (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and Melissa Proffitt (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) were also strong with a pair of double-doubles, while freshman Amy Fahey (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) and senior Kim Duprey (Bernardston, Mass./Pioneer Valley) added nine points apiece.
Fitchburg State used a 45 point first half outburst to register a 19 point lead at the break and roll to its second victory of the season. Proffitt led the Falcons first half attack, totaling 11 of her 15 points in the frame. Maloney was also strong with ten points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, while Rogers added seven points and six boards. The Falcons controlled the offensive end of the floor, hitting 51.0% of their shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from three point range.
In the second half, Fitchburg State maintained its double-digit lead, outscoring the Raiders, 37-21 in the frame. Maloney paced the Falcons second half efforts with eight points and four caroms, while Rogers completed her double-double with six points and four boards in the period. Senior Kristen Love (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) aided the Falcons, continuing her rebound dominance with seven rebounds in the second half.
Fitchburg State finished the contest, 29-61 from the field, while connecting on 46% of its shots from three point range and 75% from the charity stripe. The Rivier offense was hampered by some tough shooting and strong defense as the Falcons notched 14 steals and forced 23 turnovers. The Raiders only hit 24% of their shots from the field, while only connecting on five of their 27 shots from long range.
Fitchburg State (2-1, 0-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it hosts UMass Boston at 5:30 p.m. Rivier (1-2, 0-0 NAC) will host Regis College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
