Fitchburg State Picked To Share 2010 MASCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship

Buzzards Bay, Mass. (December 7, 2009) - The Falcons of Fitchburg State College were the pre-season picks to win the 2010 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field championship, while the Lancers of Worcester State College are the pre-season selection to claim the 2010 MASCAC Women's Indoor Track & Field title in a vote of the league's coaches.

Fitchburg State captured first place votes on the men's side to amass 17 points along with Westfield State, which claimed the other first place votes. Worcester State follows in third place with 12 points, while Bridgewater State and Salem State closed out the poll in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with 10 and four points.

Worcester State claimed a pair of first place votes on the women's side in collecting 17 points to edge out Westfield State, which took the other two first place votes in amassing 16 points. Bridgewater State follows in third place in the poll with 11 points, while Fitchburg State and Salem State round out the voting in fourth and fifth place, respectively, with 10 and six points.

Now in its 39th season of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight state member institutions that sponsor 17 championships in NCAA Division III play. Over 2,600 student-athletes participate in intercollegiate athletics at MASCAC members Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College and compete for league titles in the sports of baseball, men's & women's basketball, men's & women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, men's & women's soccer, softball, men's & women's indoor and outdoor track & field and women's volleyball.
