Muolo leads Falcons in field with 7th place finish in the weight throw
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (March 6, 2010) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's track teams wrapped up their 2009-10 indoor season this afternoon, competing in the ECAC Championships at Smith College.
Junior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) registered the top individual performance of the afternoon, finishing seventh overall in the weight throw (16.31m), while adding an 11th place finish in the shot put (14.04m). Classmate Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) was also solid in the meet, finishing 13th in the triple jump (13.54m) and 14th overall in the 200m sprint (23.09). Sophomore Mike Iasevoli (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) rounded out the men's individual performers with an 18th place showing in the 200m dash (23.20).
The Falcons relay teams were also successful in the season-ending meet as the 4x200 and the 4x800 teams posted top eight finishes. The 4x800 relay notched the best finish of the day with a sixth place showing and time of 8:02.53 while the 4x200 finished seventh with a pace of 1:31.87.
On the women's side, a pair of Falcons registered marks at the ECAC Championships as sophomore sensation Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) and freshman standout Emily Lane (Clinton, Mass./The Morgan School) competed well. Lane registered the best ladies finish of the day with a 17th place effort in the high-jump (1.53m), while Merchant finished 20th in the 55m dash (7.55).
Fitchburg State concludes its 2009-10 indoor track season and will now be off until March 20th when it opens its outdoor season at Northeastern University.
