Stoneham, Mass. native qualifies for DIII New England in first collegiate decathlon
WORCESTER, Mass. (April 15, 2010) – Senior Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) represented the Fitchburg State men’s track and field team at the Holy Cross Decathlon this afternoon, placing third overall out of 24 competitors.

Callahan collected third place honors in his very first decathlon, posting a DIII New England score of 5,807 points. Along the way, Callahan notched a pair of personal best efforts, including two DIII qualifying marks in the 100m dash and high-jump.
On day one, Callahan earned 3,323 points as he competed in five of the ten events. He began the day with a DIII time of 11.39 in the 100m dash before posting a 6.10m effort in the long jump. In addition, Callahan notched one of the top high-jump marks with a height of 1.90m, while earning 719 points in the 400m sprint with a time of 52.14. The senior standout rounded out his day with 506 points in the shot-put, throwing a distance of 10.34m.
In the second day of events, Callahan continued to shine (2,284 points), totaling over 600 points in the 110m hurdles (17.21) and cruising through four field events. Callahan turned in his best field performance in the pole vault, notching a height of 3.30m (431 points), while also recording throws of 26.71m and 38.84m in the discus and javelin respectively.
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track team will be in action this weekend as it hosts the Eric Loeschner Memorial starting at 11 a.m.
