Muolo and Jean pace Falcons with three top ten finishes in throwing events
MEDFORD, Mass. (February 8, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's track and field teams participated at the Tufts Indoor Stampede this past weekend.
Sophomore Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) guided the Fitchburg State men's team, posting a second place finish in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 2.75 inches. Classmate Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) was also solid in the field for the Falcons, totaling a seventh place finish in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 3.50 inches.

Junior Brandon Jean (Dunstable, Mass./Dunstable) and sophomore Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) led Fitchburg State in the throwing events at the Indoor Stampede, posting three top-ten finishes in both the shot-put and weight throw. Muolo posted two New England Division III qualifying performances, placing third overall in the weight throw (44-10.25) and sixth individually in the shot-put (44-2.50). Jean turned in a strong seventh place performance in the shot-put with a throw of 43-10.75.
Junior Devon Jennings (Boston, Mass./Brockton) posted the best Fitchburg State finish of the day on the track, placing 12th overall in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.82 seconds. Senior Jon Miganowicz (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett) earned a 15th place finish in the 600 meter run for the Falcons, while junior Albert Wong (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) notched a 17th place showing in the 1000 meter run.
Sophomore Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) led the Fitchburg State women's track team, posting a team-best, tenth place finish in the high-jump with a height of 4 feet, 11 inches. Junior Heather Nichols (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) was also solid for the women, finishing 15th overall in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:13.67. Freshman Karlesha Hewitt (Waterbury, Conn./Wilby) rounded out the top women performers, posting a 17th place finish in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.06 seconds.
Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it travels to the Valentine's Day Invitational at 11 a.m.
