Westfield State Picked To Claim 2009 MASCAC Men's, Women's Outdoor Track Crowns

Buzzards Bay, Mass. (March 5, 2009)- The Owls of Westfield State College are the pre-season pick to win both the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field championships in a vote of the league's coaches.

Westfield State captured all six first place votes on the men's side to amass 36 points, besting runner-up Fitchburg State's total of 30 points. Worcester State and Salem State follow in third and fourth place with 23 and 15 points, respectively, while Bridgewater State and Massachusetts Maritime round out the poll in the fifth and sixth spots with 14 and eight points, respectively.

Westfield State claimed all six first place votes in the women's poll to collect 36 points, while Worcester State was second in totaling 29 points. Bridgewater State and Fitchburg State tied for third place in amassing 20 points each, while Salem State and Massachusetts Maritime closed out the poll in fifth and sixth place with 15 and six points, respectively.

The Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight state member institutions that sponsor 15 championships in NCAA Division III play. MASCAC members Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College compete for league titles in the sports of baseball, men's & women's basketball, men's & women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, men's & women's soccer, softball, men's & women's track & field and women's volleyball.
