LeBlanc leads Falcons in pole vault; Marone leads Lady Falcons on the track
BOSTON, Mass. (December 6, 2008) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's track team participated in the Husky Carnival this afternoon hosted by Northeaster University at the Reggie Lewis Center. Both meets were comprised of several Division I, II and III colleges and universities.
Sophomore Adam LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) led the Fitchburg State men's team as he qualified for the Division III, ECAC and NCAA post season in the pole vault. LeBlanc finished 5th overall with a vault of 14 feet 6 inches. Junior Devon Jennings (Boston, Mass./Brockton) was solid for the Falcons on the track, placing 17th in the men's 55 meter dash with an overall time of 6.81 seconds. Senior Shane McDowell (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) rounded out the Falcons top three with a fourth place finish in the men's 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:01.16.
Freshman Kat Marone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) led the Fitchburg State women's team with a 14th place finish in the women's triple jump. Marone posted a distance of 30 feet 11 ¼ inches in her first collegiate track meet. Marone was also solid in the women's 4x400 meter relay, teaming up with sophomores Katelyn Page (Beverly, Mass./Beverly), Linda Fortunato (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) and Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) to place 21st overall with a time of 4:40.28. With their time, the 4x400 team earned a Division III Championship mark and qualified for the Division III post-season.
Junior Stephanie Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) was also solid for the lady Falcons, finishing 16th overall in the women's 800 meter run with a total time of 2:37.43.
Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it travels to Harvard at 10 a.m.
