De La Rosa qualifies for ECAC's with leading mark in triple jump
FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 4, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track and field team hosted the Jim Sheehan Memorial this afternoon at Elliot Field. The men registered a fourth place finish with 78 points, while the women finished seventh overall with 27 points.

Sophomore Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) led the Fitchburg State men's team with an ECAC qualifying performance in the triple jump. De La Rosa earned top honors in the event with a mark of 13.33 meters, while classmate Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) qualified for the Division III New England Championships with a distance of 12.85 meters (5th). De La Rosa was also solid in the Falcons 4x100 relay, leading Fitchburg State to a first place finish with a time of 43.97.
Junior Devon Jennings (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) was also strong on the track for Fitchburg State, placing sixth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.80. Classmate Brett Mello (Fall River, Mass./Diman) registered two, top-ten finishes for the Falcons, earning sixth place in the 110 meter hurdles (18.70) and ninth place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.11). Freshman Jimmy Petersen (Groton, Conn./Fitch) rounded out the Falcons top sprinters with a seventh place finish in the 400 meter dash, while senior Keon Valcourt (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) placed fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:15.61.
In the field, sophomore Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) and classmate Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) aided the Falcons attack with two second place finishes. LeBlanc earned second in the pole vault with a height of 4.19 meters, while Muolo set a school record in the discus with a throw of 44.08 meters. Junior Brandon Ladeau (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional) collected a fifth place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters, while junior Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) rounded out the Falcons top field performers with an eighth place showing in the long jump (6.30 meters).
On the women's side, sophomore Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) earned the top finish for Fitchburg State, placing second overall in the high-jump with a height of 1.50 meters. Freshman Katrina Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) was also solid, totaling two strong finishes in the 800 meter run and the triple jump. Marrone recorded a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.62 meters, while finishing 16th overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:44.22.
Freshman Steph Morgado (Swansea, Mass./Case) posted a top-ten finish for the Lady Falcons with a seventh place showing in the 400 meter hurdles (1:18.09), while freshman Karlesha Hewitt (Waterbury, Conn./Wilby) finished eighth overall in the 100 meter dash with a solid time of 14.18.00.
