The Fitchburg State mens and womens track and field teams competed in the 2008-09 MASCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Southern Maine this afternoon. The mens team finished with 156 points in the MASCAC heat, while the women posted 49 points.

Men earn second place finish in MASCAC's; Women finish fourth in MASCAC's
GORHAM, Maine (February 14, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the 2008-09 MASCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Southern Maine this afternoon. The men's team finished with 156 points in the MASCAC heat, while the women posted 49 points.
The Fitchburg State men's track and field team captured a second place showing in the MASCAC Championships, placing first in a pair of individual events and the other 4x400 relay. The Falcons also earned a third place finish in the Alliance heat, a combination of all MASCAC and Little East Conference schools.

Senior Brian Schell (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) led the Falcons men's track team, finishing first overall in the 600 meter run, while sophomore Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) led Fitchburg State in the field with a top finish in the pole vault. Schell posted a time of 1:24.93 in the 600 meter, while LeBlanc tallied a height of 4.34 meters. Fitchburg State also captured the 4 X 400 relay in a time of 3:29.72 for its third first place finish of the day.
Sophomore Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) was solid in the field for the Falcons, totaling a second place MASCAC finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.35 meters. Junior Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) and De La Rosa and were also strong in the men's triple jump, finishing second and third respectively in the MASCAC with distances of 13.24 and 13.20 meters.
Sophomore Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) and junior Brandon Jean (Dunstable, Mass./Dunstable) had another strong week the men's throwing events, finishing second and third respectively in the shot-put. Muolo registered a throw of 13.20 meters, while Jean tossed a distance of 12.87 meters. Jean followed up a strong shot-put performance with a fourth place finish in the weight throw, throwing a distance of 13.40 meters.
On the women's side, sophomore Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) led Fitchburg State in the field events, posting a team-best, second place MASCAC finish in the high-jump with a height of 1.55 meters. Junior Lindsay Suprenant (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) was also solid with a third place MASCAC finish in the shot-put with a throw of 9.40 meters.
On the track, freshman Katrina Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) earned third place overall in the MASCAC 800 meter run with an individual time of 2:33.45. Senior Emily Sullivan (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) ran strong in the 1 mile run, finishing fourth in the MASCAC with a time of 6:03.53, while sophomore Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) rounded out the Falcons' top women runners with a fifth place showing in the 400 meter dash, recording a time of 1:05.91.
Fitchburg State will be in action again next Saturday as it competes in the NCAA Division III Championships at 11 a.m.
