Ivanov leads Falcons with 6th place finish in pentathlon
MEDFORD, Mass. (March 8, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team competed at the Division III ECAC Championships held at Tuft's University this weekend.

Junior Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) led Fitchburg State with a team-best sixth place finish in men's pentathlon. The junior standout recorded 3,218 points in the five event challenge, posting top ten finishes in the 1000 meter run (2nd), high-jump (7th), long-jump (4th), and shot-put (10th). Ivanov started the day off with a 2:44.49 1000 meter run, before notching a 8.65 55 meter hurdle and 1.8 meter high-jump. Ivanov finished the day strong, recording a 6.16 meter high-jump and 9.69 meter shot-put.
Junior Brian Schell (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) led the Falcons on the track, totaling a 12th place finish in the 500 meter dash. Schell registered a time of 1:08.56, earning one of Fitchburg State's top finishes at the Championships. The 4x200 relay team was also solid, tallying an 8th place finish with a time of 1:32.34.
Sophomore Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) paced the Falcons in the field events, totaling a 12th place individual effort in the pole vault. LeBlanc registered Fitchburg State's best field performance of the day, posting a vault of 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5.25 inches).
Fitchburg State awaits a bid to the NCAA Track & Field Championships next weekend.
