FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 4, 2009) - Fitchburg State sophomore Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was named the MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts this past week at the New England Division III Championships.
Muolo earns his second weekly honor of the 2009 spring season after tallying a pair of All-New England honors, posting eighth place finishes in the discus and javelin. Muolo notched a distance of 43.18 meters in the discus before finishing strong with a 52.85 meter javelin. He also added a tenth place showing in the shot-put with a throw of 13.40 meters.
This season, Muolo has sparked the Falcons field performances with Division III qualifying marks, while also posting All-New England and ECAC marks. Earlier this season, Muolo picked up his first MASCAC weekly honor after posting a career day with four top-ten finishes at the Worcester City Meet. He registered New England Division III qualifying marks in three events (shot-put, javelin, and discus), while leading the Falcons to a second place team finish.
Muolo and the Fitchburg State track and field team will be in action again next weekend as qualifying members compete at the All New England Championships on Saturday afternoon.
