FITCHBURG, Mass. (March 30, 2009) - Fitchburg State sophomore Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was selected as the MASCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts this past week at the Worcester City Meet.
Muolo picked up his first MASCAC weekly honor of the season, posting a career day with four top-ten finishes. He collected New England Division III qualifying marks in three events (shot-put, javelin, and discus), while leading the Falcons to a second place team finish. The field standout earned NE Div. III qualifying marks in the javelin (160-11" - 4th), while recording a third-place finish in the discus (133-6") and a second place finish in the shot-put (46-0"). Muolo wrapped up his career day with an eighth place showing in the hammer throw.
Muolo continues to perform at a high-level for the Falcons, after opening the 2009 outdoor track season with strong showing at the Northeastern Husky Invitational. At the meet, Muolo tallied an eighth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 166 feet, four inches, while placing 19th overall in the hammer throw with a distance of 120 feet, six inches.
The Fitchburg State men's and women's outdoor track teams will be in action this coming weekend as they host the Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet on Saturday at 11 a.m.
