De La Rosa post a Falcon best 21st place finish in 200 meter dash
BOSTON, Mass. (February 28, 2009) - The Fitchburg State men's indoor track and field team battled at the All-New England Championships this weekend hosted by Boston University.
Sophomore Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) led Fitchburg State on the track, posting the top running finish of the day with a 21st place finish in the 200 meter dash. The sophomore sprinter registered an overall time of 22.67 seconds. Junior Devon Jennings (Boston, Mass./Brockton) was also solid on the track for the Falcons, finishing 25th overall in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.78 seconds, while classmate Brian Schell (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) rounded out the Falcons top sprinters with a 26th place finish in the 500 meter dash with a pace of 1:07.64.
The Falcons distance medley team of senior Shane McDowell (Nashua, N.H./Nashua), junior Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle), senior Keon Valcourt (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), and sophomore Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) posted a top 20 finish, placing 18th overall with a time of 10:52.38.
On the field side, sophomore Alex LeBlanc (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont) recorded Fitchburg State's best finish of the day with a 15th place showing in the pole vault. LeBlanc narrowly missed All-New England honors after vaulting a height of 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3.25 inches).
Fitchburg State will be back in action next weekend as it participates in the ECAC Championships on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
