Softball Picked Seventh In MASCAC Pre-Season Poll
The Fitchburg State softball team was picked seventh overall in the 2011 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league off this afternoon.
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. (March 3, 2011) - The Fitchburg State softball team was picked seventh overall in the 2011 MASCAC Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league off this afternoon.
The Vikings of Salem State University and the Owls of Westfield State University are the pre-season picks to share the 2011 MASCAC crown in a vote of the league’s coaches.Both Salem State, the defending conference tournament champion, and Westfield State, the defending league regular season champion, collected three first place votes to amass 57 points in sharing the top spot in the poll.
The next three teams are separated by a total of two points in the rankings, as Worcester State is in third place with 41 points that includes one first place vote, Bridgewater State is next in fourth place with 40 points and Framingham State follows in fifth place with 39 points that includes the remaining first place vote. MCLA is next in sixth place with 25 points, while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime round out this year’s poll in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with 21 and eight points.
Celebrating 40 years of Student-Athlete Excellence during the 2010-11 academic year, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
