Falcons Selected To Claim 2022 MASCAC MXC Crown

Fitchburg State collect 33 points to earn top spot in 2022 preseason poll 

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's cross country team was recently selected first with a total of 33 points in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASACAC) Pre-Season Coaches Poll as voted by the league coaches.

Fitchburg State was selected to claim the 2022 MASCAC Men's Cross Country conference championship, capturing three of the seven first place ballots to finish with 33 points in this year's poll, while Worcester State followed in second with a total of 31 points, including the remaining four first place ballots.

Bridgewater State was next in the third spot with 26 points, while Westfield State landed in fourth with 24 points. Framingham State finished in fifth with 14 total points, while Mass. Maritime and MCLA rounded out the 2022 Men's Cross Country Pre-Season Poll in sixth and seventh place respectively with 13 points and six points.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State men's cross country team opens its 2022 season on Saturday, September, 3rd as they host its annual Jim Sheehan Alumni Invitational Meet at 11:15 a.m. at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster.
