Fitchburg State Visits Harvard Open
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams participated in the 2011-12 Harvard Open this afternoon hosted by Harvard University.
Marrone captures 400m DIII mark; Muolo earns All-NE marks
BOSTON, Mass. (December 10, 2011) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams participated in the 2011-12 Harvard Open this afternoon hosted by Harvard University.
For the women, the Falcons received a strong performance from a pair of their newcomers as Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) and Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) notched MASCAC qualifying marks. Robert finished 24th overall in the 60m dash (8.24) and 51st overall in the 200m (28.23), while Wilkinson turned in a third place performance at the all-division meet with a time of 1:24.11 in the 500m dash.
Senior Katrina Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) qualified for the DIII New England’s in the 400m dash, collecting a time of 1:01.33, while freshman Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) added a 16th place effort in the mile run with a time of 5:48.82. The two combined on the 4x400 relay squad, placing seventh overall and posting a 4:17.87 mark.
In the field, junior Megan Gonzalez (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) was the Falcons best thrower on the afternoon, placing 15th in the shot-put (10.15m), while adding a 10.13m effort in the weight throw.
On the men’s side, senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) through up another All-New England, ECAC and DIII qualifying effort in the weight throw, finishing third overall with a heave of 17.26m. Muolo also placed tenth in the shot-put (13.51m), while sophomore Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) added a fifth place performance in the weight throw (15.79m) for ECAC honors.
Senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) continues to crush his personal best records in the 3000m run, placing 8th on the afternoon with a time of 8:49.22, while junior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) turned in an 18th place effort in the mile, sporting a blistering pace of 4:36.26.
Other notables highlights for the Falcons men’s squad included freshman Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass./N. Andover) in the 800m (2:04.46) and sophomore Pat Conaty (Southington, Conn./Southington) in the pole vault (3.80m) and 60m dash (7.47)
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams will be off until after the break when they travel to Tuft’s University on January 14th.
