Fitchburg State Battles At Greater Boston Track Club Meet
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams traveled to Harvard University to compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Meet this afternoon.
Muolo notches a pair of top two finishes; Gonzalez paces women with two, fifth place efforts
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (January 22, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams traveled to Harvard University to compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Meet this afternoon.
Both squads received some strong efforts as six Falcons collected top eight finishes. Senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) paved the way for the Falcons, finishing second in both the shot-put (15.02m) and weight throw (17.85), while classmate Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) placed second in the 3000m with a time of 8:39.73.
Junior Megan Gonzalez (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) was also solid on the women’s side, earning fifth in both the shot-put (10.17m) and weight throw (11.27m), while senior Kat Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) finished ninth in the 400m (2:33.43) and 12th in the 800m run (2:33.43).
Junior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) added a fourth place finish on the afternoon in the high-jump, totaling a height of 1.52m, while freshman Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) placed 12th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.47.
Sophomore Pat Conaty (Southington, Conn./Southington) added to the Fitchburg State top eight finishes, placing seventh in the men’s pole vault with a height of 3.81m. Classmate Zack Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) chipped in with a fourth place weight throw effort of 15.36m, while freshmen Mark Wesgan (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) and Jim Quinlan (N. Andover, Mass./N. Andover) finished tenth and 11th in the triple jump (11.77m) and 800m (2:02.11) respectively.
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s teams will be in action next weekend as it they visit Boston University on Friday at 4 p.m.
