Falcons Fly At DIII New England Championships
Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were in action this weekend as they competed in the DIII New England Championships. The Falcons men’s team traveled to Springfield College, while the women visited Smith College.
Lane paces Fitchburg State at Smith College; Muolo and Kibler shine at Springfield
FITCHBURG, Mass. (February 18, 2012) – Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams were in action this weekend as they competed in the DIII New England Championships. The Falcons men’s team traveled to Springfield College, while the women visited Smith College.
The Fitchburg State women had six members and a relay compete at the DIII Championships with senior Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) leading the way. Lane earned the top finish for the Falcons (10th) in the high-jump, posting a height of 1.53m. The Falcons 4x800 (Harrison, Wilkinson, Roy and Marrone) was also solid, placing 11th in the event with a time of 10:04.98.
Also on the track, freshman Arthina Roberts (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) earned 15th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.16, while sophomore Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) placed 18th in the 500m with a 1:44.79 effort. In the 800m, senior Kat Marrone (Springfield, Mass/.Springfield Central) and freshman Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) competed strong, finishing 13th and 18th respectively with time of 2:26.58 and 2:28.86.
Junior Megan Gonzalez (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) wrapped up the day for the Falcons in the shot-put, earning 21st overall with a distance of 10.61m.
For the men, seniors Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) and Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) stole the show, combining for three DIII honors. Muolo earned the top finishes of the days, placing fourth in the weight (17.86m) and fifth in the shot-put (14.85m), while Kibler placed sixth in the 3000m with a time of 8:38.32.
Sophomore Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) also collected DIII accolades in the weight throw, placing sixth overall with a 16.98 toss, while the Falcons 4x800 relay (Lary, Davis, Quinlan, Grasela) finished 13th with a time of 8:16.86.
Members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be in action next weekend as they compete at the All-New England Championships beginning Friday afternoon.
