Fitchburg State Pairs Up Over The Weekend
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in a pair of events this past weekend, battling at both Boston University and MIT.
Kibler and Muolo post potential NCAA qualifying marks; Marrone qualifies for NE DIII’s
BOSTON, Mass. (January 28, 2012) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in a pair of events this past weekend, battling at both Boston University and MIT.
At Boston University, three players from the Falcons squad competed in the All-Division meet. Senior Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) ran strong for Fitchburg State, potentially qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 5000m run with a time of 14:56.61. Senior Kat Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) qualified for the New England Division III Championships with a time of 2:27.3 in the 800m, while freshman Jenae Harrison (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) narrowly missed the DIII’s with a time of 2:27.87 in the same event.
At MIT, sophomore Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) posted a New England DIII qualifying time in the 600m, capturing top honors in the event with a time of 1:44.78. Freshman Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) was also solid, turning in a huge personal record with a time of 3:24.01 in the 1000m, while freshman Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) qualified for the New England DIII’s in the 55m dash (7.67).
On the men’s side, the Falcon throwers dominated the meet as senior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) and sophomore Zach Desrochers (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell) posted All-New England marks on the afternoon. Muolo turned in a potential NCAA qualifying mark of 18.62m (1st) in the weight throw, while adding a first place effort in the shot-put (14.32m).
Desrochers also qualified for all three post-season meets (DIII’s, ECAC’s, All-NE’s) in the weight throw, placing second overall with a distance of 12.72m. The sophomore hurler also placed seventh in the shot-put, posting an effort of 12/72m. Freshman David Oster (Port Monomouth, N.J./Middletown) was also solid with a MASCAC qualifier in the weight throw (10.23m).
The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action again next weekend as they compete at Tufts University beginning at 11 a.m.
