Men’s Track Shines At USATF NE Championships

 Guevara Mateo sets new school record in the 3000 meter with time of 14:31.49

Cambridge, MA – The Fitchburg State University Men's Indoor Track & Field team returned to action today as they competed at the 2026 USATF New England Championships, hosted by Harvard University at the Gordon Indoor Track.

Senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the shotput with a toss of 13.07 meter and first in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16,97 meters, while senior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) placed first in shotput with a mark of 13.21 meters and second in weight throw with an All-New England qualifying mark of 17.38 meters.

Freshman Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) was also solid for the Falcons, placing first overall in 5000 meter with an All-New England qualifying and school record time of 14:31.49, while sophomore Shamar Richburg (Rio Vista, TX) finished second overall in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.49 meters and sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.18 meters.

In the 60 meter, sophomore Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) and classmate Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) finished 25th and 33rd overall with times of 7.48 and 7.57 seconds, while in the 800 meter, senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) turned in a 16th place time of 2:02.83.

Junior Tafari Byfield-Felton (Fiskdale, MA) placed fourth overall in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.09 meters, while in the 200 meter, Clottier (23.25), Madden (24.33) and sophomore Christopher Adamchek (Carlisle, MA( (24.63) placed ninth, 32nd and 44th.

In the field, junior John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (8th), classmate Vishnu Pithani (Mansfield, MA) (10th), sophomore Joseph Imbracsio (N. Billerica, MA) (12th) and freshman Nathan Murray (N. Billerica, MA) (13th) notched toss of 11.26M, 10.34M, 9.96M and 8.87M in the weight throw,

In the long jump, freshman Angel Lockward (Santo Domingo, DN) (11th) and newcomer Kevin Tawiah (Worcester, MA) (25th) notched marks of 5,92 and 5.04 meters, while in the 3000 meter, senior Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) posted a 23rd place time of 10:25.20.
