Men's Indoor Track Shines At Wesleyan Indoor Invitational

Bourassa sets new school record in the shotput with toss of 16.03 meters

Middletown, CT. – The Fitchburg State University Men's Indoor Track & Field team returned to action today as they competed at the 2026 Wesleyan Indoor Invitational at the Bacon Field House.

At the 2026 Bryant Indoor Throws Competition on Wednesday, senior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) placed first overall in the shot put with an All-New England qualifying and new school record toss of 16.03 meters, while finishing third in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16.59 meters as well as placing second overall in the discus with a throw of 43.80 meters.

At the 2026 Wesleyan Indoor Invitational, Bourassa led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing second in weight throw with an All-New England qualifying throw of 17.16 meters and first in the shotput with an All-NE qualifying throw of 15.89 meters, while senior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) placed fourth overall in the weight throw with an All-NE qualifying toss of 16.57 meters as well as finishing ninth in the shotput with a toss of 13.04 meters.

Sophomore Shamar Richburg (Rio Vista, TX) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing second overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.50 meters,  fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.95 meters and 15th in the high jump (1.65M), while newcomer Paulino Guevara Mateo (Cambridge, MA) turned a second place time of 8:44.84 in the 3000 meter and first overall in the mile with a time of 4:21.01.

In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore William McGurl (Billerica, MA) turned in sixth place time of 9.74 seconds, while in the 60 meter dash, junior Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (7.55), junior Derrick Tawiah (Worcester, MA) (7.84), sophomore Jeremiah Marsh (Boston, MA) (8.10) and senior David Rodriguez (Hampden, MA) (8.48) placed 22nd, 29th, 32nd and 34th respectively.

In the 400 meter, senior Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) turned in a 21st place time of 58.69 seconds, while in the 600 meter, junior Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) placed 16th overall with a time of 1:38.14.

Edwards and senior Omar Elmi (Worcester, MA) finished third and fifth overall in the 800 meter with times of 2:06.59 and 2:18.73, while Lancaster (3:03.81), junior Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) (3:10.56) and Del Valle (3:14.06) finished tenth, 11th and 13th in the 1000 meter respectively.

In the 200 meter, junior Alvaro Castillo-Clottier Jr (Palmer, MA) (9th), Madden (27th), Rodriguez (36th) and Marsh (37th) posted times of 23.63, 24.94, 27.38 and 27.75 seconds, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Castillo-Clottier, Moriello and freshman Martin Griffith (Randolph, MA) placed seventh with a time of 3:49.90.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Del Valle, Madigan, Elmi and Mateo finished fifth overall with a time of 9:40.00, while in the mile, junior Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) (ninth), classmate Joshua Lancaster (Holden, MA) (24th) and junior Lemuel Del Valle (Lawrence, MA) turned in times of 4:39.76, 5:14.00 and 5:41.49,

In the field, freshman Vishnu Pithani (Mansfield, MA) (9.74M), newcomer Nathan Murray (North Billerica, MA) (8.11M) and sophomore John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, MA) (8.01M) placed 23rd, 26th and 27th in the weight throw, while in the shotput, sophomore Joseph Imbracsio (N. Billerica, MA) (25th) and Pithani (26th) registered tosses of 9.36 and 9.26 meters.
